Turntable Trio
The new wave of turntablism’s heaviest minds team up to rewire what we know about the boundaries of genre, composition & technique. Toronto’s sonic metal worker reimagines the aural workshop.
Turntablists Maria Chavez, Evicshen (aka Victoria Shen), and Mariam Rezaei come from varying backgrounds, from deep listening practices to DIY scenes to composition, but all share a deep passion for experimentation and re-imaging what is possible with the turntable. Chopping up records, both physically and sonically, the trio uses a plethora of extended techniques, often developed in their own practices, including multi head needles, amplified resin objects, homemade instruments, re-assembled records, and acrylic needle nails. Their sculptural sound work mangles elements of musique concrete, noise, free improv, techno & hip hop through a lens of playful maximalism. On the cutting edge of the genre their collaboration pushes the sonic possibilities beyond.
Multidisciplinary artist Kristina Guison pulls haunting sounds from sheet metal against a backdrop of abstract rhythmic expressions from homemade metronome mechanisms. Amplified sculptural pieces become active collaborators as Guison teaches them how to sing.
Radio Music Gallery mix series featuring selections from Patrick Roots & Leroy Sabbath will be streamed throughout the night.

Sometimes our shows sell out, and that can be a bummer for folks who didn’t get a ticket. We’ve developed a new ticketing policy that applies to advance ticket holders and those wanting tickets to ensure a fair, transparent process for releasing additional tickets to a sold-out show. TICKETING
Our new ticket type invites you to Pay What You Can Afford (PWYCA) which means that you can choose an appropriate level and where possible, help to offset community members attending at a discounted rate. Levels are decided by you based upon your income and financial flexibility and are not verified at the door.
