Emergents I: Community Sound

Workshop in Emergents Series

Kicking off our 4-part series, night one of possible worlds creates a space for us to explore DIY improvisation.

possible worlds is a 4-part series dedicated to musical world-building. It calls us to dream up new futures for emerging artists where they have access to creative support as they experiment.

Night one is a workshop led by saxophonist, clarinetist, instrument maker, and MG family member Naomi McCarroll-Butler, who will be leading us through a series of guided improvisations using graphic scores and conduction. Aimed at community members and early-career artists interested in exploring collective music-making, this will be a community space for people with different artistic interests and backgrounds to meet, speak and create together.

All levels and forms of musical experience are encouraged, and knowledge of musical notation is not required. There will be space to participate or to observe, and soundmaking objects will be provided onsite. If you play an instrument, bring it!

Please sign up in advance!

If you require an amp, please bring your own. We will have microphones and some direct inputs for electronics.

Please be sure to bring proof of full vaccination. All participants are to remain masked except vocalists and wind players, who will be administered a COVID rapid test on arrival in order to participate with masks off.
