Join our Board of Directors
December 12, 2023
Director on the Music Gallery Board (Volunteer Position)
Deadline: February 5, 2024
Who we are: The Music Gallery cultivates artistic experimentation and community through sound, music and sharing in the creative process. We have been programming in Toronto since 1976. Each year we present a series of concerts, festivals, workshops, and residencies that centre genre-defying music, and strengthen connections between artists and audiences.
About the role: We are looking for community members who care about our mission, and share our values, to join our board of directors. Our board reflects a range of lived experiences and identities. Collectively the board serves a governance and policy role in support of strategic and operational matters, while prioritizing anti-racism and anti-oppression in our planning and decision-making.
- Directors serve two-year terms, and volunteer between 5 and 10 hours per month to prepare for and attend meetings. A majority of meetings take place remotely by video.
- Each director serves on at least one board committee. Existing committees include: equity, diversity and inclusivity; fund development; venue; and, history and archives.
- Directors are encouraged to take part in Music Gallery events and help build awareness of our activities through their network.
- Board members will occasionally participate in group training on relevant topics.
- We welcome all interested applicants, and will prioritize those with the following skills/experiences/interests:
- Previous board or related organizational/leadership experience
- Financial management
- Non-profit development strategies (donor, sponsor, foundation)
- Desire to potentially grow into a role on the executive committee of the board
We are committed to maintaining a Board that reflects Toronto’s diversity. We especially encourage applications from BIPOC people, people with disabilities, and people of diverse sexual orientations, gender identities and gender expressions.
Accessibility statement: The Music Gallery’s primary venue and office location, 918 Bathurst, is not fully accessible due to stairs (two half flights to enter the performance space, and one flight to access the Music Gallery office and the washrooms).
