Emergents III: The Music of Ken Aldcroft
The Music Gallery presents
Emergents III: The Music of Ken Aldcroft + Fundraiser!
Part of the Emergents series
Guitarist, composer and community organizer Ken Aldcroft is fondly remembered by improvisers in Toronto old and young. Since his untimely death in 2016, saxophonist and member of Ken’s Convergence Ensemble Karen Ng has been sorting through his music in the hopes of cataloging it all. Ken’s “pan-idiomatic” compositional style was all his own and both bands and students expanded their personal vocabularies upon coming into contact with it.
Such a wealth of music ought not only to be catalogued but shared: tonight is a celebration of Ken’s work as passed from one generation to another. Karen has selected music and her and trumpeter Emily Denison have brought a very special ensemble together to bring Ken’s music to life in a new context. As an educator, Ken would no doubt have been pleased to see his peers imparting his music to an emerging generation of players.
