Emergents II: Duo Holz + VC2

Concert in Emergents Series

The Music Gallery presents
Emergents II: Duo Holz + VC2
part of the Emergents Series
curated by Chelsea Shanoff

This duo of duos  offers a kaleidoscope of sounds and vibrations for the first Emergents of 2018. Violinist Aysel Taghi-Zada and percussionist Michael Murphy are Duo Holz. Duo Holz made their debut only last year in January 2017 when they performed at the opening of the new Yamaha Recital Hall at Atelier Rosemarie Umetsu. Aysel is a meticulous and performance-driven violinist who can be seen regularly with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Michael is an eccentric percussionist who has travelled to the US and Germany to collaborate with composers, and he is currently living in Freiburg, Germany, where he is studying at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik.

Comprised of cellists Amahl Arulanandam and Bryan Holt, the Toronto-based VC2 presents artistically challenging yet accessible programs of classical masterworks, unknown gems and boundary- pushing music. As a duo, they’ve performed in venues ranging from intimate pubs to Roy Thomson Hall. Both cellists wear many musical hats as orchestral, chamber, and session musicians in and around Toronto and have individually performed with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Art of Time Ensemble, Continuum Contemporary Music, Pocket Concerts, Music in the Barns, and many more.

There will be a reception after the show to celebrate the Music Gallery’s new Bandcamp platform.

The Emergents Series is generously supported by Roger D. Moore.
