YOU IN MIND, A FIVE PART EVENT SERIES FOR MUSICIANS

October 4, 2021

News

Over the last year, musicians have balanced the loss of gigs and tours with having more time at home to explore new artistic endeavours. As we all slowly return to public performance, The Music Gallery has a created a platform to help musicians bring these explorations back to a venue, its beautiful home at 918 Bathurst St.

Following the theme for this year’s X Avant Festival, You In Mind, the Music Gallery is hosting a series of five events from December through March dedicated to artists whose projects or organizations are not supported by public funding or otherwise do not have the means to present in venues of our scale.

As always, the Music Gallery places few boundaries around what “experimental” music is and encourages submissions and/or nominations for artists who wish to expand their musical palettes. Do you have a concept you want to develop but have never had the opportunity? Ideas that don’t fit into your typical practice which could benefit from additional resources? A space to perform out loud, or a musical notion so seemingly crazy you’d never be able to pull off in front of your usual audience? This is what we have in mind for You In Mind.

Successful Applicants Receive:

Application Process

Each submission should be 250 words or less, in which the applicant will detail an idea for presenting a concert that they might only be able to pull off within the creative confines of the Music Gallery. Submissions should include links to an artist’s work – letters of support from friends/community supporters are encouraged. The Music Gallery’s Artistic Advisory Council will be assessing the submissions and will make the choices. Submissions can be sent to sanjeet@musicgallery.org by November 15, 2021.

This series is generously supported by the Department of Canadian Heritage. All applicants must comply with the Music Gallery’s Covid-19 policy
