Toronto, Ontario – David Dacks, Executive Director of the Music Gallery, has announced that he will step down from his role in April 2023.

David started programming at the Music Gallery in September 2010, became Artistic Director in 2012, and moved to Executive Director in 2020. Over the past 3 years, David steered the organization through the COVID crisis. For a time working as both Artistic and Executive Director he prioritized taking care of the Music Gallery’s extensive community connections and ensured the Music Gallery’s operations are on a solid footing before he departs this April.

In addition to being a positive changemaker at the Music Gallery, David has worked tirelessly in Toronto’s music industry as a broadcaster, journalist, musician and DJ. Of special note are the past five years where David has served on the Music Committee and Board of Directors of the Toronto Arts Council. His impact is vast, and all those who know him recognize his dedication and passion.

“David continues to be a source of inspiration for me. He’s a gentle force that has taught me how to fight for more, encouraged me to dream big, and supported me endlessly as Artistic Director. He has the biggest heart and I’m looking forward to seeing what he gets up to next. The city isn’t ready.”
– Sanjeet Takhar, Artistic Director, Music Gallery

“David has been synonymous with everything the Music Gallery represents over the past 13 years. His work has honored our creative history, forged new ground and provided strong leadership during some challenging times. I would like to extend well deserved appreciation and gratitude on behalf of the Board of Directors. We are sad to see David move on but are forever grateful for the imprint he has left on the Music Gallery.”
          – Dave Darby, Music Gallery President

“The Music Gallery has been my heart and soul for more than a dozen years. The responsibility I have felt in promoting creative music in Toronto and beyond has been a challenge and a privilege. Every event has felt like a new and unique effort, and I hope each effort has made our community that much stronger. I look forward to drawing on the many experiences I’ve had during my tenure as I move into new roles and projects. Thank you to everyone I’ve worked with over the years, and I especially look forward to seeing Sanjeet’s brilliant programming further the MG’s impact in Toronto and beyond for years to come.”

Artistic Director Sanjeet Takhar will assist with administrative duties during this transition and act as the main point of contact for the organization.

The search for a new Executive Director will commence in mid-February.
