Emergents II: April Aliermo + Sun Sun

Concert in Emergents Series

The Music Gallery presents
Emergents II: Sun Sun + April Aliermo
part of the Emergents Series
Curated by Sara Constant

Since 2016, EQ: Women in Electronic Music has served as a space for education, mentorship and community-building for women and non-binary folks who create electronic music. Developed by composer Rose Bolton in collaboration with the Canadian Music Centre and with the support of Musica Reflecta, EQ is a special part of Toronto’s artistic community.

This Emergents concert features two former participants of EQ, who have since been exploring new forms of experimentation with electronics and sound. Sun Sun (Francesca Nocera) is a DJ, producer, visual artist, clothing designer and filmmaker, known for her work with electronic/dub/grunge/hip hop mash-up group Above Top Secret, Ayo Leilani’s Witch Prophet, and  label/presenter 88 Days Of Fortune, which now goes by the name Fortune Booking. Here, Sun Sun will present new work: a musical and visual experience featuring experimental electronic soundscapes, video projections, and minimal vocals.

In the second half, April Aliermo (from rock band Hooded Fang and electronic duo Phèdre) will present Artemis of Colour, her first large-scale project as a solo musical artist. Playing synth and samplers and working with audio-responsive visuals by Sahar Homami (performed live by Kat Estacio), Aliermo will create meditative, electroacoustic soundscapes around themes of women’s empowerment.
