Announcing Sara Constant as Artistic Director

Toronto, Ontario – The Board of Directors of the Music Gallery is pleased to announce the selection of Sara Constant as the organization’s Artistic Director. Sara succeeds Sanjeet Takhar, who stepped down from the position in the spring after five years in the role.

Sara will be the driving force guiding curatorial work of the Music Gallery, while also supporting the design and implementation of workshop and residency programming. 

The Music Gallery has been pursuing an ambitious multi-year strategic plan that has deepened our approach to facilitating artistic development, improved program accessibility, and prioritized new partnerships and relationships as a multi-site presenter. Through Sara’s extensive background in the arts she brings sensitivity and a visionary perspective to our work.

Sara Constant is a musician, curator and artist working in contemporary/experimental music and sound. Trained as a flute player and active as a performer, sound artist, and ensemble musician, Sara’s work involves interpretations of composed music, improvisations with instruments and electronics, and sound installation, to explore ideas around listening, resonance, and place.

An active member of Toronto’s various experimental music scenes, Sara comes to the Music Gallery with experience from Venus Fest, the Tranzac, Musicworks magazine, the Toronto Creative Music Lab, the Toronto Chinatown Land Trust, and diy/community organizing, where her curatorial work has focused on how care for liveness and livability can craft real spaces for listening and expression.

In her Music Gallery role, Sara will collaborate closely with Executive Director Matthew Fava to continue developing and deepening our creative programming.

Sara started in the role this month. She will be supporting the facilitation of Fall programming including the X Avant festival, and begin curating programming in the winter and spring.
