The Suoni per il Toronto series runs this weekend (June 26-28) and this Friday and Saturday evenings from 6-8pm, we're co-hosting two Summer BBQs with our friends and hosts here at St. George the Martyr. It's free admission prior to the evening ticketed concerts, and burgers, hot dogs and bevvies will be served in St. George's beautiful courtyard garden. All food and drink will be for sale at artist-friendly prices, with proceeds going to support the community parish that we call home. We're enthused about the concert line-ups as well, of course: Thursday night (June 26), our friends at Abient Editions co-present a triple bill of electro-acoustic music (something we don't hear nearly enough of in Toronto) with Meaford, Ontario Funny-Farmer Gordon Monahan, Chicagoan guest Olivia Block, and Abient's own Joda Clement. Friday (June 27), we're very honoured to present two sets with the Evan Parker Trio; the British saxophone colossus being joined by his long-time partners Paul Lytton, percussion, and Barry Guy, bass. Parker and Lytton will also stick around to conduct a free improvising workshop — both admission and improvisation being FREE — on Saturday (June 28) from 2-4pm. And the series and our season wraps up Saturday night with another triple bill: Toronto's own Feuermusik celebrate the release of their fabulous new CD No Contest with a big-band performance, Boston trio treat us to what is sure to be a very LOUD (earplugs recommended!) demonstration of their homemade, scrapyard rock instrumentation, and Marilyn Lerner starts things off with a solo piano set, outside in the courtyard. Please be advised: this concert (June 28) will not be seated for its entirety; be prepared to stand for significant portions. It will be worth it, trust us!
