March / April line-up announced
Posted on 2.4.10-------------------------------------------------------
There's some exciting stuff happening at the Music Gallery in the upcoming months of March and April that we're now ready to share with you. Our New World series, curated by Andrew Timar, launches for the current season with Vancouver's Red Chamber on March 6, performing a concert program entitled "Secret of the Chinese, Passion of the World." On March 11, Chicago guitar-centric duo David Daniell & Douglas McCombs (of Tortoise) visit as part of our Pop Avant series. Toronto's Debashis Sinha opens. March 13, New Yorkers FLUX Quartet explores their town's history in New Music as part of the Post-Classical series. The weekend of March 19-20, we collaborate with the Theatre Centre's Free Fall Festival to bring you Quebec City's madcap L'Orchestre d'Homme-Orchestre ("the band of one-man bands"), who perform the music of the one and only Tom Waits. March 27, New York composer/performer Lukas Ligeti will give a concert for solo percussion and the rare, Buchla-designed instrument, the marimba lumina. Toronto's Princess Century a.k.a. Maya Postepski opens. On April 13, it's a very special Pop Avant double bill with two iconoclastic American singer/songwriters, Baby Dee and Josephine Foster. And finally, the weekend of April 23-24, there will be a New World workshop and concert with Berlin duo Cuni and Durand entitled "Cosmopolitan Ragas" (stay tuned for the official announcement).
