Stars Like Fleas are a sprawling, experimental pop collective that formed in Brooklyn in the winter of 1999, but never performed live until 2005. The group immediately created a stir and an overnight name for themselves in their sentiment-suspicious borough, performing exponentially larger shows in a variety of secret spaces and not-so-secret spaces like a recent sold-out show at Bowery Ballroom.

Unlike similarly free-minded groups fusing rock, (freak) folk, noise and electronics, Stars Like Fleas stands out for the delicate way they commingle the disturbing, harsh and confrontational with something undeniably sincere, joyous and unabashedly romantic. Having been compared to groups such as Xiu Xiu, Animal Collective and Talk Talk, describing Stars Like Fleas is not a chore for the imagination-challenged. Their work has been described as “an uninhibited precognitive glimpse into the workings of the subconscious mind.” The group features members of Beirut, Fiery Furnaces, Tall Firs, and John Zorn and William Parker's ensembles.

The Saffron Sect is born of overgrown gardens and shaded secret places. Songs of seas, smoke, and stone alike, these recordings offer glimpses of worlds that might have been, or should be. Hazy and mysteriously rollicking rhythms, an array of familiar yet archaic instruments coupled with Gaven Dianda's lilting voice and lyric betray his weird imagination, painted here with the palettes of the surreal, with a string pluck.

Like most inspirational art, Timber Timbre comes from a source of isolation, cabin fever specifically. Timber Timbre walks a precious line between harrowing blues and desperate death country.
